The Local Copy preference controls an aspect of the Edit File command in the Network menu. Normally (with the Local Copy preference on), a copy of the file is left around on the Macintosh even after it is no longer being used - that is, after the Send File generated by the Save operation has successfully completed. With Local Copy turned off, though, the file on the Mac is deleted as soon as the transfer completes.
